Lots of information one would otherwise never know. (Ships' officers coming on to lower ranking women employees. Today it would be considered sexual harassment.) Jessop puts a human face on a woman who had to work diligently and overcome loneliness and still soldier on to support herself. Easy read and a feel good story.
Interesting. Violet Jessop is an eloquent speaker and tells great stories of her maritime career with White Star Line and her survival of the Titanic and Britannic disasters.
extraordinary story of a woman who after having a dreadful childhood, survived the titanic and went on to lead a very eventful life and was always serving others. great reminder that many have tough lives yet manage to live life to the fullest
Great book. Bought it because I saw a presentation based on this book. Very interesting first hand account of what happened that fateful night.
this book held my interest and showed what a hard working woman this survivor was. it also shows how much harder life was in those days compared to today. i would recommend it to anyone who has an interest in what life was like back in the day.
What an amazing woman! An interesting look at the life of a stewardess and life aboard ocean liners in the early 1900's. Like many others, I am fascinated with Titanic and that's why I bought this book. But this book is mostly Violet Jessop's journal covering many years. Titanic is a very small section of the book. Even so, I was drawn into Violet's life and her many adventures and I was not disappointed.
This book was like discovering one more piece of a favorite thing, when you thought you knew all there was to know. It is the story of one Violet Jessop who was on board all three of the White Star Liners, Olympic, Titanic and Britanic. Amazing story of her life told in her own logs and diaries. The Titanic part is but a wee part of the entire book but this soul had a lifetime on the seas having survived all three wrecks of the big White Star liners. Well worth having a copy for your collection, loved it.
